Only by sharing information across components, systems and actors in the energy system can renewable energy projects be scaled within the necessary timescales to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. Yet the same interoperable technologies that add flexibility to the grid and open up a whole suite of exciting new use cases also introduce new inter-dependencies and potential vulnerabilities. As such, cybersecurity and digitalization are two sides of the same coin.

The energy sector is critical infrastructure, meaning that a power outage would have cascading effects that could leave the population immobile, incommunicado or isolated from the outside world. To prevent cyber attacks from affecting operations, all solutions across the entire value chain must be securely configured, updatable and able to be regularly checked.
