ADS-TEC Energy, a German manufacturer of battery storage and fast-charging solutions, and gridX combine battery-backed fast charging with intelligent energy management to address this challenge.
The expansion of high-power electric vehicle charging infrastructure is often constrained by limited grid connection capacity. Upgrading a grid connection can be costly and time consuming, potentially delaying the rollout of new charging sites, or the expansion of existing ones.
ADS-TEC Energy, a German manufacturer of battery storage and fast-charging solutions, and gridX combine battery-backed fast charging with intelligent energy management to address this challenge. ADS-TEC Energy's ChargePost combines fast-charging technology with an integrated battery, while gridX's XENON energy management platform coordinates the charging infrastructure with other energy consumers and generators on site.
With a grid connection capacity starting at just 22 kW, ChargePost can provide up to 240 kW of charging power, with up to 300 kW possible with larger grid connection points. The integrated battery provides additional power for charging, while XENON dynamically manages energy flows at the site, always taking available grid capacity into account.
Integrating ChargePost into XENON enables charge point operators to simultaneously manage fast-charging infrastructure and other electrical loads. XENON continuously monitors energy flows and dynamically adjusts charging power based on the available grid capacity.
When the grid connection is heavily loaded, XENON can limit the power drawn by ChargePost. At the same time, the integrated battery can provide additional power to the vehicle, allowing high-power charging to continue without exceeding the available grid capacity.
The combination of battery-backed charging and dynamic energy management therefore enables reliable and grid-friendly operation of fast-charging infrastructure, even at sites with limited grid capacity.
The combination of battery-backed fast charging and dynamic energy management creates a scalable approach for deploying charging infrastructure at locations where additional grid capacity is not readily available.
This is particularly relevant for commercial and semi-public sites where charging infrastructure shares a grid connection with other consumers. XENON can coordinate the different loads at the site to make efficient use of available connection capacity.
Depending on the site and use case, additional functions, such as peak shaving or overload protection, can also be applied. Peak shaving can help limit costly load peaks, while overload protection prevents fuse trips and protects critical equipment, such as production and cooling systems, from unplanned outages.
For charging operators, this creates a flexible way to expand high-power charging infrastructure while reducing their dependence on immediate grid connection upgrades.

As charging demand continues to grow, many electric vehicle (EV) charging sites quickly reach grid capacity limits, making expansion complex and costly. E.ON Drive required a flexible energy management platform that allows charging infrastructure to scale across diverse sites while keeping both upfront investment costs and ongoing operational costs, such as grid fees, low.
At one site, dynamic load management with XENON enabled E.ON Drive to expand the charging capacity by a factor of eight without any grid extension. The platform automatically allocates power to vehicles, ensuring full utilization of available grid capacity without requiring additional infrastructure investment.
Energieversorgung Mittelrhein (evm), together with greenblocks and gridX, has achieved a major milestone in intelligent energy management. Within just two months from project start, the home energy management system (HEMS) liya was successfully deployed in the first households in Koblenz. This marks the starting point for scaling the technology to even more evm customers.
The solution is based on gridX’s hybrid energy management system XENON, while evm and greenblocks jointly handle the go-to-market setup, technical commissioning, tailored sales training and ongoing operational support. evm, supported by its in-house installer division evm Service GmbH, installs the systems directly on-site and provides personal customer support. Even before the official market launch, customers were introduced to the new solution in dedicated informational events, and the sales team was thoroughly trained.
