gridX wins Anne B. Bicking as CEO and expands C-level to three people

  • Anne Barbara Bicking will become Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of gridX on November 1, 2025, aiming to establish the organization as the market leader in energy management in Europe
  • Tim Steinmetz remains Chief Growth Officer (CGO), Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO) position to be filled shortly
  • The newly-formed three-headed C-level team will use the additional expertise to lead the scale-up on a path of sustainable, value-based, and profitable growth

Aachen, October 27, 2025 – gridX, Europe’s leading smart energy company, is setting the course for the next phase of strategic and scale-driven growth: Anne Barbara Bicking will join the company as CEO effective November 1, 2025. The expert in digital energy solutions brings 19 years of experience in business transformation to the table, including nearly eight years in leading positions in the energy sector. The three-headed C-level team consisting of Bicking, Steinmetz, and the future CPTO will pursue the clear goal of establishing the scale-up as Europe’s value-oriented, sustainable, and profitable market leader in energy management.

Anne B. Bicking strengthens gridX’s future outlook

Bicking is taking over the future-oriented steering of the organization and its external representation. “With drive, respect and appreciation, I am taking on the task of establishing gridX, and its partners, as the market leader in energy management in Europe, and driving the European energy transition forward. I couldn’t be happier to be leading such a dedicated and talented team, without whom the success of the recent years would never have been possible,” says the CEO designate.

After graduating with a master’s degree in International Management (King’s College London), the 42-year-old laid the foundation for her professional career at the strategy consultancies Oliver Wyman and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. There, she advised transport and logistics companies and gained in-depth expertise in the comprehensive design of systematic corporate transformations. She then moved into the energy sector to take on leading roles at E.ON Inhouse Consulting GmbH and E.ON SE before taking on the task of holistic restructuring at the technology group thyssenkrupp, which required particular attention and effort in all personnel and communication matters. Bicking then returned to E.ON Inhouse Consulting as CFO and Member of the Management Board, where she was responsible for financial controlling and IT agendas. Across various business areas, she shaped programs for the standardization, automation, and digitalization of power grids and led strategic realignments and transformations, including the scaling of energy storage systems. In addition, she co-developed E.ON One GmbH, which provides digital solutions for challenges in the areas of grid operations, e-mobility, and energy management, all while closely following the scaling potential of gridX.

For gridX, Bicking operates from Aachen, where the company recently moved into a new office that offers enough space for the growing team and the company’s own test lab and production warehouse.

Tim Steinmetz ensures continuity and stability

To remain fully focused on scaling the organization in the future, Tim Steinmetz will, at his own request, stay with the company as CGO. At the Munich office, the 39-year-old will continue to oversee growth, innovation, business customer management and the expansion of strategic partnerships, maintaining continuity and stability in the management team. “I am very pleased that we were able to win Anne over to our team. She brings nearly two decades of proven success in managing transformation processes, is highly experienced in increasing the commercial performance of comparable companies and, alongside her operational execution, distinguishes herself with  the exact conceptual clarity needed for our envisaged growth,” adds Steinmetz.

The graduate industrial engineer (Technical University of Berlin) has been working in the energy sector since 2009. After international positions in portfolio management and energy trading at the ENGIE Group, Entelios AG, and EnerNOC Inc., Steinmetz joined gridX as CGO in 2019.

Tobias Mitter to be succeeded by new CPTO shortly

The announcement of the CPTO, who will succeed Tobias Mitter, former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of gridX, and become the third member of the new C-level team, is planned for the near future.
