Smarter energy monitoring: The 3 layers of XENON’s interfaces

Since the beginning, gridX has had one mission: to make energy management seamless for everyone involved – from installers on the ground to OEMs producing the hardware to end users controlling their home energy assets. Each group represents a different layer of energy monitoring via our energy management system (EMS), XENON, with tailored interfaces that provide a high-level of insight and control.

As we continue to scale and refine the XENON ecosystem, we’re enhancing all three layers of this experience: the XENON Dashboard for administrators, end user dashboard for homeowners and EV drivers, plus a brand-new hub for installers within our wizard app. Together, the updates to the two existing dashboards plus the new installer hub makes gridX’s EMS more intuitive, the energy monitoring smarter and the installation process smoother than ever before.

XENON Dashboard: Easier energy monitoring

For administrators at energy companies, the XENON Dashboard continues to evolve as a powerful platform for managing a large number of energy systems. The latest updates make it easier than ever to monitor performance, analyze data and make informed decisions.

Improved system list

The system list has been updated to include new features and components that make navigating large datasets faster and more intuitive.

Key enhancements include:

Pagination

Pagination allows for smoother browsing through extensive system lists. Previously, there was no pagination and limited filtering, which made it difficult to locate specific systems or understand the overall fleet status at a glance. With the new update, users can filter their systems to find specific ones. For example, an administrator can search for systems that contain “electric vehicle (EV) charging stations”.

Column filtering

In conjunction with pagination, column filtering allows users to to instantly locate the most relevant information. Quickly and simply narrow down the search to which assets are available, unavailable, etc. – for clear and direct energy monitoring.

The updated system list in the XENON dashboard introduces pagination and advanced column filtering for faster, clearer energy monitoring across large fleets.

Gateway firmware visibility

Administrators can now view firmware versions for each gateway component directly on the gateway tile in the system overview. Previously, when customers or end users reported issues, support teams often had to ask which firmware version the gridBox was running – a process that slows resolution, especially when multiple firmware versions are in use across the field.

Now, with this information instantly available, support can quickly identify whether a problem is tied to a specific firmware version. If it’s a known issue, they can solve it immediately; if not, they can escalate it to the engineering team with all the details needed to reproduce and fix the problem.

This change significantly improves transparency and response time, ensuring that both customer support and engineering work from the same clear, reliable data.

Redesigned historical view

The historical view in the XENON Dashboard has been redesigned to provide a richer, more transparent look at what’s happening inside each system. Released in early October, this update now offers greater data visibility and actionable insights for OEMs and support teams.

For example, the new view displays detailed information about:

  • Energy production and consumption (grid supply, grid feed-in, PV generation and household use)
  • Battery behavior – when it charges or discharges
  • EV activity, including charging times and energy use

A key improvement is the integration of electricity prices and time-of-use (ToU) decisions, showing exactly why the system acted in a certain way – for instance, when it decided to charge from the battery or feed energy back into the grid.

The new historical view provides deeper insights into energy production, consumption and pricing – turning complex data into actionable intelligence.

These updates give XENON a truly comprehensive EMS dashboard, designed to simplify energy monitoring at every level.

User dashboard: More transparency, more understanding

For end users, understanding how their energy system behaves is key to using it effectively. That’s why the energy management app for homeowners has received a complete visual and functional refresh.

Among the highlights:

  • A redesigned historical view (just like in the XENON Dashboard) with dynamic price charts, daily-to-yearly navigation and clear explanations for ToU decisions. Users can now easily see how small changes, like delaying EV charging, translate into real savings.
  • A revamped UI with more explanations about heat pumps, heat rod settings and how solar surplus is prioritized.
  • More intuitive charge modes, making it easier to understand how the charging behavior influences energy usage and cost.
  • A cleaner, smarter energy management overview, combining everything users can configure into one easy-to-read screen.

Together, these updates make energy management more transparent and rewarding, helping users feel in control of their own energy journey.

The installer hub: Bringing clarity and control to the field

Until now, installing or troubleshooting a XENON system could be a complicated process for installers, especially when they often have to rely on the end user’s login credentials or request help from the gridX team to adjust configurations. An end user handing over their user name and password is also not on par with gridX’s cybersecurity standards. The new installer hub changes that completely. It acts as the single source of truth for installers, with all necessary information and support, specific prompts to carry out each installation and commissioning step and an overview of systems for remote monitoring and maintenance.

When speaking about the new installer hub, gridX Product Manager – Wizard Timo Streckfuß says, “The installer hub streamlines the entire commissioning process to make life easier for installers in the field. They now have a secure, dedicated space to set up and troubleshoot systems without relying on end-user access. This not only saves time but also ensures every installation is faster, more efficient and fully aligned with our standards.”

Installers can now log in with their own secure accounts and access the dedicated installer hub, streamlining commissioning and troubleshooting in the field.

When an installer logs in using their dedicated installer account, they land in the installer hub, a centralized interface where they can:

  • Set up new systems for customers, or
  • Troubleshoot existing systems already in operation.

Once the installer has logged in, they are then led through the usual commissioning steps via the commissioning wizard, including the registration of the customer’s gridBox.

End user prompts to wait for the professional

A common scenario we’ve seen is that enthusiastic end users sometimes jump ahead and activate their gridBox before the installer arrives, which used to cause confusion or access issues. The wizard app now prompts the customer to choose whether they want to set up the system themselves or wait for a professional. This workflow eliminates the need for installers to impersonate the end user or request their login details (re: the cybersecurity mentioned earlier). Now, the installer’s separate secure access allows them to work independently and efficiently without disrupting the customer’s experience.

The new setup prompt gives customers the choice to complete installation themselves or wait for a professional, ensuring a smoother and more secure process.

Easy maintenance for remote access or on-site

And if something needs to be fixed later? No problem. Installers can re-enter the system remotely or on-site, make adjustments and even reclassify devices without locking the end user out. This flexibility drastically reduces friction, supports faster issue resolution and empowers installers to deliver the high-quality service customers expect – right from the field.

In short: the addition of the installer hub makes installations smarter, faster and far more reliable.

Connecting the layers of energy monitoring

XENON’s three-layered approach to energy monitoring empowers all players across the energy ecosystem. From administrators using XENON’s energy management dashboard for deeper insights to homeowners engaging with their energy usage to installers making their field setup easier, each layer strengthens the next. Together, they create a seamless experience that turns complex energy data into clear, actionable knowledge. It’s all part of gridX’s mission to make renewable energy accessible, understandable and beneficial for everyone. At gridX, we continue to connect the dots between installers, energy service providers and end users – building an ecosystem where smart energy management drives a cleaner, more sustainable world.

XENON is the heart of a smart home ecosystem – connecting all three layers of energy monitoring for a smarter, more accessible energy future.
