From working student to full-time employee: career development at gridX

Prioritizing career development is an important part of building a positive corporate culture. Why? Quite simply: continuous career development is a win-win for both parties. The needs of employees are continually changing, and by recognizing and adapting to these changes, gridX is able to grow alongside its team members. At gridX, we make an effort to value our employees at every stage of their career path, particularly those starting out with internships or working student jobs.

In general, kickstarting your career path in energy management startups or energy tech startups, provides a lot of scope for personal and professional growth – constant challenges, exciting products, flat hierarchies and meaningful work. At gridX, we work particularly hard on retaining valued team members. So, here’s an example of why energy is a good career path – particularly one that starts at gridX.

At the end of 2021, Daniel Mehren wanted to find a working student position at an energy startup in Munich that would make use of his technical background, and foster his sales skills. Daniel came across gridX and was immediately impressed by the smooth and fast hiring process. He began as a working student for Business Development and was able to start gathering valuable experience from day one. He was given the opportunity to take on a variety of tasks that provided him with insights and skills along the entire sales process – from pre-sales discovery calls to handling customer issues.

After 6 months as a working student, Daniel Mehren switched to a full-time Customer Support Manager at gridX

Aside from the ability to grow and learn, the main drive to stay with gridX came from the positive company culture. Daniel felt valued as a team member from the very start – and he loved working with passionate people, who are inspired to push the energy transition forward each day. The decision to transition to a full-time position came from both sides – his manager recognized the value of retaining someone, who has built up skills within the company and Daniel wanted to stay in a friendly and open-minded working environment. So, ten months later, he transitioned into a full-time role as a Customer Support Manager. Now, Daniel uses his unique combination of technical and sales skills to help partners overcome issues. He enjoys having a better overview of what gridX does in the field and looks forward to doing meaningful work with a great team.
